About 8am on 14 February, I heard that Oscar Pistorius had shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Within an hour, the story was all over the world news and the people of South Africa found themselves immersed and mesmerised by the Oscar story. The story was like a huge magnetic field whirling through South Africa, gathering energy and momentum as it spread.
Were you one of the people caught up in the Oscar tornado? Listening to the TV or radio – trying to dissect the story and formulate beliefs of what was true or not? You probably were (or knew someone who was) because, within a week, wherever I went, someone was asking what I thought about it. Everyone one had their own opinion on what had happened and even opinions about Reeva. I saw people get very emotional, even angry as they expressed what they believed to be true (and what they believed to be true was the truth and that was that.) Can you relate? You might even find the thought flared up again this past week when you heard the case had been postponed until August. I can relate because at times I found myself doing the same thing and it took some critical Key Steps to make sure I was able to…
Reclaim Personal Power
1. Remove ego from the driving seat. When you judge others or become self-righteous and think you know it all, the ego is going to grab that window of opportunity and take control of the soul’s experience. This is how it is designed, this is its natural state. It is a bit like Sméagol in the Lord of the Rings, give it a chance and it will go for it. I did not matter how Sméagol tried to resist the ring, the ring was just too powerful for him and in the end, he forfeited his life as he jumped off the cliff to grab his dearly beloved ring. The ego can be the same (when it is over-inflated). If given half a chance, it will take over, drive you ‘mad’ and drain all your power and energy. It might not be the Oscar story that does it to you but it could be judgments about a boss, colleague, friend, ex-wife, child, parent… the list goes on. Where do your ego to take over and drive your life? STOP IT! Take your power back today and…
2. Tell yourself stories that heal not harm. The world is neutral; we are the ones that give it meaning based on our state of being, experience, scripting, culture, etc. This meaning is made through the stories we tell ourselves. There are many different ways you can react to the experiences that appear in your world. You can observe them without opinion. You can participate in them without labels or judgements. You can choose to just not participate or observe at all. It is up to you! How many times have you talked yourself into being angry or upset about something? Be honest! We’ve all done it, far too many times. How about you start talking yourself into happiness, success and peace and take Key Steps to…
