When I think of taking action, I always think about Einstein’s definition of insanity. He says that insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting to get a different result. So true! And how often do we all fall into that trap? I know I have lost count of my patterns of insanity. Fortunately, it doesn’t matter how many times we have fallen into the trap… All we can do is recognise the insanity and take key steps together to make sure we don’t repeat it. So, this week let’s…
Take Action… One Step at a Time
- What’s the most important thing to do first? Make a lists of what you need to ‘STOP doing’ and ‘START doing’ and decide what the most important items are – pick one from each list. This isn’t about what your partner, mother, best friend or boss would want… this is about YOU! And what YOU want to change in 2017.
- What’s the first easy step you can take? Instead of trying to swallow the whole elephant, all I want you to think of is the first easy step you can take. Often we repeat old patterns of insanity because we keep thinking about the whole elephant instead of concentrating on the first bite. For example, if you want to stop smoking, you could log onto https://www.allencarr.co.za/ and find out when the next workshop is. Alternatively, if you want to start being more assertive, you could practise one way of saying ‘NO’ to requests for your time or energy so you are ready when the situation arises.
