Are you insane?

When I think of changing behaviours or taking action, I always think about Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity. He says, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, while expecting to get a different result.” This is so true! We often fall into this trap, without realising it. How many times do you think you have fallen into this trap? Fortunately, it does not matter how many times we have fallen into this trap, we can always recognise the insanity and learn to use Key Steps to…

Take action… One step at a time

  1. What is the most important thing to do first. Catch the pattern of insanity and make a list of the things you need to STOP doing and START doing. Look at your list and prioritise. Listening to your authentic inner voice (as we learnt last week) will help you determine what is most important to you. (Hint: Quick wins might be one approach; the right thing to do is not always the easiest.) Pick one thing from each list and commit to it. Remember this is not about what your partner, mother, father, best friend, boss or even your children want… this is about YOU! And what YOU want you to change in YOUR life. Email Tiffany for more information about our EQ programmes (NQF aligned) that are designed to assist in developing self-awareness.
  2. What is the first easy step you can take? Instead of trying to swallow the whole elephant, all I want you to think of is the first easy step you can take. Often we repeat old patterns of insanity because we keep thinking about the whole elephant instead of concentrating on the first bite. For example, if you want to stop smoking you could log onto Allen Carr’s website and find out when the next workshop is. Alternatively, if you want to start being more assertive you could practise one way of saying ‘NO’ to requests for your time or energy so you are ready when the situation arises. The first easy steps is often all it takes, it can be like the effect of the first falling domino. If you need support, we can help! Take a look at Key Steps in action and see how taking the first easy Key Steps can help you to…
