The road to hell is paved with good intentions

Samuel Johnson

You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection

What does it take to make time for YOU?

One of the most common complaints I hear during training is that life is so busy that there is just no time for ‘ME’! While I often feel the same way and find many things encroaching on my ‘ME time’ and relaxation spaces, I have learnt to acknowledge that it is MY CHOICE to allow these things to happen. I allow my phone to disturb me after hours as I continue to answer emails. I allow myself to work after hours because I often take on too much. I allow my weekends to be sabotaged by catching up on paperwork. And the list could go on. I am pleased to say that I have broken these habits and am establishing healthier boundaries but there are always improvements I can make. So let’s take Key Steps together and

Put you first!

  1. Make yourself a priority. Are you one of those people who’s constantly doing things for others, while putting yourself at the bottom of your own list of priorities? If so, it’s time to move yourself to the top of the list, where you belong. I’d recommend taking one small stand against the ‘busy-ness’ each day… Maybe spend 30-minutes technology free, leave work at work (at least a few nights a week – even one night off is a start), eat dinner as a family at the dinner table, have one pyjama day a month, give yourself permission to sleep late, play golf… whatever you consider ‘ME time’. What will you do to put YOU at the top of the list?

  2. Don’t wait for the heart attack. So many of us wait until we have frayed nerves, get physically ill or have a near death experience before we take time for ourselves. Why wait until your life could be over to really live it!? You are better than that… you are worth more than that… start today and remember that every little step counts and they all add up.
